HeroQuest Review - Isometric Role Playing Game Application software download free Windows Based on the 1989 Milton Bradley and Games Workshop board game of the same name, HeroQuest converts it into an isometric-viewed role playing game in which players control a wizard, a dwarf, a barbarian and an elf each with their own strengths and weaknesses against the evil Wizard Morcar. There are 14 scenarios to play through containing everything from a single room to whole castles, each with varying denizens of darkness and treasure to encounter. Characters start each scenario from opposite sides of a square-shaped grid, and moves are made by rolling dice to establish a movement order for the next turn. Actions that require more than one move can only be carried out before or after that move, and the size of these actions is also determined by a dice roll. These include fighting the many monsters that lurk, or casting spells to vanquish them. There are magic potions to uncover, but there are also hidden traps that can snare the unwary. The characters are presented as sprites that are well defined, and a nice touch is that when an action takes place that involves fighting or battling enemies the scene cuts to a special combat screen rather than staying in the main environment as is often the case in other adventure games. Combat isn't the most engaging aspect of the game though, as it involves simply selecting an enemy to attack and then watching as the computer rolls dice for hit/miss and defence to establish how the battle progresses.
