You play as Bub or Bob, two bubble-blowing dragons. You must use bubbles and various power-ups to clear all the levels of monsters. You can play Bub & Bob X alone or team up with a friend. The game is obviously easier and more fun with a friend.
You must defeat all the monsters to advance to the next level. There are 9 types of monsters - Zen Chan, Mighta, Monsta, Drunk, Pulpul, Banebou, Hidegonsu, Invader, Skel Monsta - and each one has different abilities. If your dragon hits a monster or a projectile, he loses a life.
To defeat a monster you must trap it in a bubble, then use the spikes on the back of your dragon to burst the bubble. The monster will tumble and transform into a fruit. You can also burst a bubble by jumping on it.
Defeated monsters transform into fruits. Grab them to earn points. If you burst a group of monsters trapped inside bubbles, you get different and more valuable fruits.
Bubbles cannot keep the monsters trapped forever. Flashing bubbles mean they are about to burst on their own or that a monster is about to escape. When a monster escapes from a bubble, he gets angry and starts running, flying and/or shooting at a very fast pace.
Monsters also get angry when you spend too much time in a level. The message "Hurry Up!" warns you when your time is up and all the monsters are about to go beserk. They return to normal if a player looses a life.
